Late Afternoon on Market Square

Headquarters of Enso  designed by Alvar Aalto are under cover not because of an artistic project but prosaically for repair. Behind it Uspenski Cathedral

The ferry to Suomenlinna

Queuing tickets to the ferry

And at the other side of the square, Esplanade

Katajanokka - jugend and walkers

Katajanokka was built at a time when there was no need to reserve extra space for cars - it was built for people.

Today the cars fill every available corner... but even that can not hide the beauty and varying structures of these old houses.

Heavy stone and wrought iron structures are part of jugendt, and that can clearly be seen here.

Different forms, rounded corners and other decorations make the environment rich and interesting.

Some small shops and entrepreneurs are still occupying the basement - a cobbler's shop here.

Rounded windows and sharpened doorway...

They have best friends here, too.

It is spring, sunday maybe - peaceful and faintly green...

A typical jugandt doorway.

Compared with a modern 'cityscape' this is rich and inviting.

Many yards have signs forbidding cars - still kept for people!

Shop-windows: Korkeavuorenkatu

Artek at the northern end of Korkeavuorenkatu

About halfway to south is Philippa, boutique for both clothes...

and art

And here drawn some years previously with a painting avec a dress in the window

The colorful display of ties in this window is hilarious - there is such a wide range of ties...

So would it be ties and accessories?

A box of tools, but not for children - they are for real use...

A model of airplane

and little boats with oars and sails
